About

Kobold Pet Shop is a game about a summoning spell gone wrong and compromising on the consequence.  It is our entry for Ludam Dare Jam 55.

How to Play

To get through the intro scenes, simply click/tap anywhere.  You can also click/tap the option buttons in the upper right to toggle the music and sound at any time you wish.

At the start of the game, you will be given 5 random pets as cards at the bottom of the screen.

The game will now present you with 3 trait options.  Click/tap to select a trait for the first batch of customers to use.

The trait symbol you select will be featured for all customers.  However, everything else about them will be random.  You can also choose the "?" choice to refuse to lock any trait.  In that case, the customers will be completely random.

4 customers will now be revealed to you.

Drag and drop a pet card onto a customer to assign it to a customer.  You can see on the right of the screen how many points this play will earn you.  Matching the traits of the pet with the trait requests of the customer will earn points.  If no traits match, the play is worth 0 points.

Click/tap on the green checkbox in the lower right corner to confirm your play.  The game will score the play.  The customer card you selected will be removed, and a new random pet will be added to your hand.

After all 4 customers are served, the game will start the next round.  You can select a trait for the next customers and play out pets again.

After 3 rounds, the day will be over, and your final score is shown.

Not every game is possible to get a perfect score.  Sometimes, we have to compromise.

Cute, fun little game. I didn't read the instructions at first but I was able to quickly gain a rudimentary understanding of what to do anyway, which shows good design.

On my second round I knew the mechanics but got a lower score; on my third and fourth rounds I started understanding the game better and realizing there's actually a decent amount of strategy, while the random element still keeps it engaging.

I believe my scores were 20, 18, 19, 6 (I got a bad opening hand and threw the match), and finally 22

Those are some very good scores!  We worked quite hard on thinking up and balancing the chance with the scoring and strategy options.  Very glad to hear it felt intuitive to learn!  Thank you for playing! :)
