About

Kobold Slide is a game about a cute kobold going on a sliding winter adventure.  It is Moonbow Entertainment's entry into the #KIFASS JAM!

Everything was created during the jam except for the background music.  The engine used is DragonRuby Game Toolkit, a fantastic little beast of an engine that let us get all this together over a few weekends.  They never requested a plug, but we liked the engine a lot, so have one anyway.

How to play

  • Chop trees for points. Hitting too large of a tree at low speed makes the Kobold bounce off.
  • Fill up the boost bar by destroying trees to enter boost mode.  In boost mode the Kobold will go max speed and destroy everything without bouncing.
  • Run over igloos to get more time.
  • Kobold can also earn bonus time for destroying enough trees.
  • "Disturb" the birds to knock out a bunch of trees at once.
  • The game is over if the dragon catches up to the Kobold.

Controls

  • Tap the menu buttons or screen when instructed to get through the comic menus.
  • Use your mouse to direct the Kobold as he slides down the hill.
  • On mobile devices, he will try to go to the last place you touched the screen at.
  • You can use the sound, music, and day/night toggles to control the game options at any time.

Have fun!

I really enjoyed the music on this one! The objective was confusing as I just jumped and played without reading the manual but I jumped into the second play through with the instructions in mind.

I dig the simple mouse controls on the desktop. Reading about how the player character moves to the last touched place on mobile sounds intriguing for a control scheme. I'll try to play it on a mobile device later to give it a shot.

One area of feedback is the flexibility of the time limit. It seems you can do a lot to increase the distance between you and the dragon so it never seems to be a threat. But the "chillness" seems to be a factor in the games you make so I can see why you implemented it this way.

The game shows a lot of the effort you put in. Thank you

Hello, I am glad you had fun!

Yeah, the time can let you play quite a while. My personal high score is about 8000 or so. I'm not sure if you can play infinitely. But I think the way the math is eventually you will run out of time. (not sure on that we didn't test it all that much.) We were going to have different difficulties or other game play modes but ended up chopping them out for smoother/faster entrance into the game. Maybe we could expand on the idea for a later game. (Maybe make the Dark souls of slide games.)

We are trying to make a bunch of games to play like the old flash arcades. Thanks for playing!

Very cute graphics and sounds. I laughed and smiled a lot as I played it. Everything works smoothly on my Android phone. Terrific job, guys!
